Considered “too cold” by Britain's post-war middle classes, aluminium furniture never really took off . As a result, it's now rare and highly collectable. Designed by PB COW and Made by Huntingdon Aviation Ltd, England.
the era
What to do with aluminium from WW2 fighter jets? Make it into stunning modernist furniture, of course!
A Stunning art-deco style dressing table designed by P. B. Cow and Co. Ltd for Hunting Aviation Limited, England, c. 1940s-50s. Made from machine-turned aluminium with Bakelite handles (mm are: 1150 w x 460 d x 765 h) £475 Email me to enquire |
bold deco design
Curved amber-coloured handles contrast well against the textured, grooved metal drawers. The interiors of the drawers are lined with a lovely cherry-red felt.
The 3 sections of engine turned aluminium (2 side units with drawers and a central drawer ) can be easily dismantled and screwed together; ideal as a deco-stye dressing table or as stunning bedside cabinets.
condition
Makers and manufacturers mark visible in the top drawer. A few dinks and some wear to the patina of the aluminium.
